What we collect and why
Your account
You must sign in with Apple or Google to use GameOrbit. From that sign-in we receive an account identifier, your email address (which may be an Apple private relay address) and your name. We use them to create your account, keep it secure and answer support requests. We don’t receive your Apple or Google password and don’t keep Google access tokens. Your GameOrbit session is stored in your device’s Keychain.
Your library
Everything you record about your games: which games you have, their status (want to play, playing, played), your ratings, scores and rankings, play dates, platforms, tags, notes, collections, preferences and saved insights. It also includes your answers to optional setup questions, such as your platforms and how much you play.
Your library is stored on your device and synced privately to your account. We use it to run the app and to personalize your recommendations.
Synced ratings and rankings also help improve recommendations for other players. Your notes are not used for recommendations.
Your profile
Your name, handle, bio, pilot, platforms and a summary of your taste (your star spectrum), together with the games you have played, their ranks and scores. Who can see it is up to you; see who can see what.
Friends and community
Friend requests and friendships, notes you share, likes, blocks and reports. If you join through a friend’s invite, we record who invited you and whether you have saved a first game, so they can earn invite rewards. They see your name, handle and the invite’s status, but not which game you saved.
Recommendations and discovery flights
We use your library, preferences and activity, including information from services you connect, to personalize suggestions. In shared features, other participants may see recommendations based on your preferences.
We keep your recommendation and flight history, your responses, and personalized predictions to provide these features, avoid repeat suggestions and apply usage limits. We also use this information to evaluate and improve recommendations. Activity beyond your ratings and rankings is not used to train recommendations for other players.
Community numbers
Game pages can show averages from friends and from players with public profiles. Trending and popular lists count activity only for games played by at least five players with public profiles, and don’t show who played what.
Memberships
Basic and Pro memberships are Apple subscriptions. Apple handles payment; we don’t receive your card details. When a paid feature needs it, the app sends Apple’s signed purchase confirmation to our server, which checks it with Apple and then discards it.
Steam connection
If you choose to connect Steam, you sign in on Steam’s own page and we receive your Steam account ID and the games and playtime Steam makes visible. We don’t receive your Steam password. Only the games you confirm are added to your library. Unconfirmed import data expires after 24 hours. Disconnecting Steam removes the link and the Steam activity we kept; games you already added stay in your library.
Support messages
If you email us, we keep the conversation to help you and to resolve any follow-up.
Technical information
Like any online service, our providers receive technical information needed to deliver and secure requests, such as your IP address and request details. Game searches go through our server and are cached for 15 minutes under a hashed key, without your account ID. To prevent abuse, we count requests against a random identifier created each time the app starts; those counts expire within a day.
How we use and share information
We use the information described above to run GameOrbit, personalize your recommendations, keep accounts secure, answer support requests, moderate shared content, and understand how GameOrbit is used so we can improve it.
We share information with other players as described in who can see what, and with the service providers listed below. We may also share information when required by law, or to protect players and the service.
Names, handles and shared notes are checked automatically for harmful words, and reported content is reviewed by our moderators.
Who can see what
| Only you | Notes (unless you share one), tags, play dates, collections, setup answers, saved insights, games you marked “Not for me”, and your flight history. |
|---|---|
| Your profile audience | Your profile, the games you have played with their ranks and scores, and notes you choose to share. Profiles start Public, which means anyone can view them, even without an account. In Edit profile you can choose Friends or Only me instead. |
| Friends | People who accepted your friend request, or whose request you accepted. Friends can see your score and shared note on a game during their own discovery flights. |
| Moderators | Reports, and the content they refer to. The player you report isn’t shown the report. |
A shared note is a copy. Editing the private note later doesn’t change the shared copy until you share again, and making the note private removes the copy. Blocking someone hides your profiles and shared notes from each other. We can’t recall copies someone else already saved.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run GameOrbit. They process data on our behalf and under their own privacy policies.
- Supabase hosts accounts, the database and our server functions. The database is in Oregon, United States.
- Apple and Google provide sign-in. Apple also provides subscriptions and app distribution.
- IGDB (Twitch) supplies game information. Your searches reach IGDB through our server, without your account details.
- Steam supplies some game media and store information.
- Cloudflare hosts and delivers this website and processes request information, including IP addresses, to provide and secure it.
- Gmail handles our support email.
Game images and videos load directly from IGDB and Steam, so those services see your IP address when your device fetches them. Providers may process data in other countries.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored encrypted by our hosting provider. It isn’t end-to-end encrypted: we can access it when needed to run the service or respond to a support or legal request. Access to private libraries is limited to your account and to service administration.
How long we keep data, and deleting it
We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. Delete account in Settings permanently removes your account, profile, shared notes, friendships, library and its earlier saved versions, recommendation and flight history, and the account’s data on the device you delete from. If you signed in with Apple, you confirm with Apple so we can revoke GameOrbit’s access.
When you turn off library sync, remove a rated game or delete your account, we stop using the affected ratings for future training. Their influence on recommendations already learned can remain for up to 30 days.
Detailed recommendation evaluation data is kept for up to 180 days, or until you turn off sync or delete your account. Reports without player identifiers may be kept longer. Your flight history remains until you delete your account. Daily-limit records are cleared after a week when you next use Discover.
A few things can remain afterwards:
- Reports other players made about you, with your account reference removed, and moderation records we need to protect the service.
- Anonymous invite credit, so a friend keeps a reward they earned.
- Your library on other signed-in devices until they next connect, and any copies in your own device backups or exports.
- Provider logs, for the provider’s standard retention period.
Signing out removes the account’s synced library from that device. Changes that haven’t synced yet are kept, hidden, until you sign in again. Deleting GameOrbit or your account doesn’t cancel an Apple subscription; manage that in your Apple Account settings.
Your choices and rights
In the app you can change your profile audience, share or unshare notes, manage friends, block players and delete your account. Email gameorbit.support@gmail.com to ask for a copy of your data or to correct or delete it. We may need to confirm you own the account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
GameOrbit isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as GameOrbit changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
